Maria G. Leal

Region 1B

Leal has served as a member of the South Texas ISD Board since 2002, in addition to the four years she served on the Mission CISD Board as president, vice-president, and member. She was elected to the TASB Board in September 2004, and is a Leadership TASB graduate and has served on the TASB Legislative Advisory Council.

The retired insurance agent attended Del Mar and Jacinto City colleges and is a charter member and graduate of Leadership Mission. Leal has been a member of the Hidalgo County Sesquicentennial Board, Mission Lions Club, Mission Historical Preservation Committee, Valley AIDS Council Board, Catholic Daughters of America, Pan American Roundtable, Rio Grande Valley Life Underwriters Association, Mission Boys and Girls Club Board, Mission Adult Education Advisory Council Board, and Mission Band Booster Club. She also has received the  Friends of Special Education Award from the Mission CISD Special Education Department and is a Texas Lions Foundation Fellow.
