Qualifications & Characteristics
The superintendent is accountable to the Board of Trustees. The expectation is for the superintendent to be the educational and motivational leader for the Laredo Independent School District. The superintendent will work closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
In concert with staff, students, and community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a superintendent.
Approachable, relationship-oriented individual with people-skills, including listening and bilingual communication capabilities preferred
Proven record of academic success in a district with a similar culture, including language barriers and low socio-economic status
Strong motivational capabilities with visibility in the district and community
Decision-maker, grounded in facts with a willingness to defend decisions made for the benefit of the education program and the overall climate of the district
Record of stability in previous districts and experience at all levels of the public education process, including academics and finance
Accessible to all patrons and actively involved in school and community activities
Proven advocate for children, regardless of status or ability
Mission
The mission of Laredo ISD, as an educational partner with the City of Laredo and the larger global community, is to develop and educate our students by providing a relevant and challenging curriculum through innovative programs and effective use of resources in a safe and nurturing environment.
