Qualifications & Characteristics

The superintendent, as chief executive officer, is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the superintendent to be the education leader of Darrouzett ISD. The superintendent works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the mission of the district.

In concert with the staff, parents, and community, the Board of Trustees has identified the following qualifications and characteristics as highly desirable in a superintendent:

  • Is able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees; provide timely and accurate information about the district, present sound recommendations for action and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation

  • An effective communicator with superior interpersonal skills who is up to the challenge of making and defending difficult decisions that are best for students

  • A motivational, visionary leader with the ability to build broad consensus in support of district goals and plan strategically to ensure the development of education programs and effective use of the district's facilities, resources, and personnel

  • Possesses and exemplifies high moral standards and personal ethics with a background of complete integrity

  • Is skilled in being involved with the community and is able to effectively present the goals of the district to gain support

  • Wants to live in the town of Darrouzett, be an active member of the community and make a long-term commitment to Darrouzett

  • Demonstrates a successful record of fiscal planning, management, and projecting future needs

  • Is student orientated and clearly understands how the learning-teaching process best functions - shows clear evidence of raising achievement levels

  • Believes in an open-door policy and is accessible to community and staff

  • Can effectively delegate staff members to carry out their responsibilities independently while remaining knowledgeable and accountable for the district's overall progress in carrying out its mission

    The mission of Darrouzett ISD, a public educational system committed to the belief that children come first, is to encourage each student to strive for personal excellence and to ensure all students will develop intellectually, and learn to function, contribute and compete as responsible individuals in an ever-changing world. We will accomplish this mission through challenging learning experiences provided by superior educators in partnership with parents and the community in a climate of cooperation and mutual respect.

    About Us

    Darrouzett Independent School District (ISD) is located in Lipscomb County which is in the Northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle. It is a Pre-K- 8th system with a current enrollment of 65 students. The district is one of the major businesses in the community employing over 21 individuals with a budget over $3 million dollars.

    Seeking consistent gains in academic performance with Exemplary and Recognized Ratings, the district has provided quality instruction for all students.
