For some of you, it has been several years since you have had to secure an electric supply contract. TASB, in partnership with Direct Energy, has committed to effectively managing your electricity costs during these times of extraordinarily high and volatile natural gas prices. Because electricity costs in Texas are directly influenced by natural gas prices, electricity costs have also increased significantly in recent years.

To take advantage of opportunities when gas prices are favorable, which often occur quickly and do not last for more than a few hours or days, TASB will be working with Direct Energy to act quickly to lock in natural gas costs over the coming months. This will ensure a fixed electricity price over the length of your contract before you actually receive and pay for the electricity. If your entity participates in the TASB Aggregation Pool, you will not need to independently procure electricity for your entity.

If you are joining the program between pools, you will be provided pricing that will “bridge” you to the next pool. However, a longer term contract may also be offered. As a member of the pool, you will receive many advantages in procuring your electricity. A few of these benefits follow:

Assurance that all procurement laws and statutes are met, which means that you will not have to go out for bid on your own.
Aggregating your load with that of many others to achieve increased buying power.
Commercial Electric Supply Agreements (contracts) that have been negotiated by TASB to ensure the protection of our members.
No monthly meter charges (which typically range from $8-$25 per month per meter).
No meter add or delete fees.
Additional bandwidth to allow for the addition of meters and usage under the initial contract and rate (the extra bandwidth is used on a first-come-first-served basis).

The fee to participate in the Pool is $0.0015 per kilowatt-hour up to a maximum of $10,000 per year, per entity. For instance, an entity with an annual usage of 1,000,000 kWh would pay an annual fee of $1,500. This fee is included in the rate that you will receive. In the interest of honesty and transparency, this is the only fee that TASB receives for its services, and it is shown on each and every monthly billing statement. If your entity uses in excess of 6,667,000 kWh annually, your electricity rate would drop by $0.0015 per kilowatt-hour. At this amount of usage, you would have met the $10,000 maximum fee to TASB.
