Don’t Miss Your Opportunity to Present at Governance Camp
The deadline is fast approaching for school leaders and students to submit session proposals for TASB’s 2025 Governance Camp, which will be held March 5-8 in Galveston.
Presenting at Gov Camp offers a unique opportunity to showcase successful district programs and initiatives from the trustee and student perspective, according to Jackie Clark Spencer, division director of Events. Session applications are due Jan. 10.
“This event offers programming unlike any other TASB training opportunities, thanks to our members who come up with sessions that focus on student impact and student voice,” Spencer said. “Our members always tell us how powerful it is to interact with students and to see how their decisions impact the students they serve.”
Those members whose sessions are selected for Gov Camp receive two complimentary registrations for the event.
Students who wish to participate in the event also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of ways, including presenting with trustees or other district leaders. They are also encouraged to submit an application to bring an interactive exhibit or hands-on demonstration to showcase a unique student-led project or initiative to Gov Camp participants.
“These exhibits are a great way for students to show how a particular learning experience has enhanced their education,” Spencer said.
The application includes a guide to submitting a successful proposal. To minimize the burden on district budgets, TASB will provide students and chaperones (up to two) that present sessions and/or exhibits complimentary hotel rooms and a mileage reimbursement allowance.
In yet another opportunity to showcase student talent, Texas public high school seniors are invited to apply for the scholarship panel, where they will have the chance to talk about their public education experience with school board members from across the state. Five students will be selected to participate and receive $1,500 scholarships from sponsor, Walsh Gallegos.
“Gov Camp is such a great event because it really highlights the impact that school board members can have on the student learning experience,” Spencer said. “Those trustees who attend or present and bring students with them, go back to their districts with a lot of inspiration and great ideas for how they can continue to make a positive impact in their communities.”
