Teacher Highlights: District Personnel Salary Survey

Results from the 2023-2024 TASB District Personnel Survey are now available in TASB HRDataSource™.

Teacher highlights from statewide data are available for download and cover typical starting pay and hiring schedules, median average salaries, shortage area stipends, degree and leadership stipends, and substitute pay rates. Of 1,019 districts, 543 participated, representing 53 percent of districts in Texas. For districts with 3,000 or more students, participation was 81 percent.

Key teacher findings for respondents include:

  • Median starting salary for a new teacher is $47,388, up 1.8 percent from last year. The highest reported entry salary is $65,000.
  • Median teacher average salary is $55,600 up 1.7 percent from 2022-2023.
  • The majority, 90 percent, pay shortage stipends to teachers in at least one identified shortage area.

Regarding pay increase:

  • Median pay increase across all pay groups (teacher, administrative/professional, clerical/paraprofessional, and auxiliary) is 3.0 percent.
  • Of responding districts, 13 percent did not give a pay increase for the 2023-2024 school year, while 3 percent reported a one-time payment.  

All participants were given an opportunity to provide suggestions or comments about improving the online survey. The suggestions and comments will be reviewed and factored into improvements for next year. Thank you for the feedback!
