George Kazanas began his career at TASB as division director of Field Services. In December 2023, he was named Executive Search and Field Services Officer as the two divisions were combined to streamline services to members. Kazanas has 32 years of experience in public education, and prior to his work at TASB, he served as Midway ISD’s superintendent. Kazanas was named Region 12 Superintendent of the Year in 2018 and 2004, while serving in Midway and China Spring ISDs.  

He is the former president of the Texas Association of Suburban/Mid-Urban Schools and a former executive committee member for the Texas Association of Community Schools. He previously served two different terms as a TASA Executive Committee member. Kazanas earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with teacher certification and a master’s degree in educational administration from Baylor University. He also holds a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Tarleton State University.  

Strauss joined TASB in 2011 as a field services representative and transferred to ESS in 2013. She worked for 34 years in public education, including 21 years as superintendent in Somerville, River Road, Wimberley, and Pine Tree ISDs. Strauss is a former executive board member of the Texas Association of Midsize Schools and has served on the Texas Education Agency’s Commissioner’s Cabinet.

Strauss has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas State University and a doctorate from Texas A&M University.

Robert Durón joined TASB in January 2014, serving as associate executive director of TASB Governance Services. In 2022, he became an executive leader member support. Before coming to TASB, he was deputy commissioner of finance and administration for the Texas Education Agency. He has 32 years of education experience, including serving as superintendent of San Antonio and Socorro ISDs and as an assistant superintendent in Clear Creek ISD. He received his doctorate from Baylor University and holds two degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He also has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston in Clear Lake and the University of Texas at San Antonio. 

Before joining TASB in May 2016, Joy Rivera worked for several nonprofits in the areas of membership, marketing, and legal. She provides administrative support to Executive Search Services. 

She enjoys engaging with our membership and is truly committed to TASB’s mission of educational excellence for school children through advocacy. 

Rivera graduated from Concordia University with honors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in human resource management with a minor in business administration.
