TASB Legislative Advisory Council

The Legislative Advisory Council is a 108-member body of school trustees elected by TASB members like you. Find out what they do and who they are.

Advocacy through TASB comes in many forms. One of those is the Legislative Advisory Council (LAC), a 108-member body of school trustees elected by TASB members like you.

LAC is unique because members represent their regions. They’re tasked with the difficult job of taking all the regional advocacy priorities identified at Grassroots Meetings across the state and merging those into one list of statewide Advocacy Priorities for the TASB Advocacy Agenda.

What LAC Does

  • Meets twice in even-numbered years to refine the results of the Grassroots Meetings and develop the Advocacy Priorities.
  • Meets after a regular session of the Texas Legislature to review legislative action and decide if changes should be made to the Advocacy Priorities.
  • Sends recommendations to the TASB Board of Directors, then on to Delegate Assembly for approval.

Who Serves on LAC?

At each Grassroots Meeting, trustees vote on a LAC representative for their region. Some regions may have more than one LAC representative, depending on the region’s student population.

The LAC also elects four members to serve on the TASB Board's Legislative Committee.
