What are the training requirements for school crossing guards?

Per the Texas Transportation Code § 600.004, if a crossing guard is directing traffic in a school crossing zone, they must complete a training program in traffic direction as defined by the basic peace officer course curriculum established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Standards and Education. The TCOLE Training Providers webpage provides contact information for local and online providers authorized to administer course 2075 Traffic Direction.

Training requirements for crossing guards not directing traffic in a school crossing zone will vary by district.
