Coming to a Location Near You: Fall Legal Seminars

Audience participates in a discussion during the Fall Legal Serminar.

Each year, TASB’s Legal Services holds seminars across the state to help trustees and superintendents navigate the laws impacting Texas schools. This year’s Fall Legal Seminars, held in November, will take place in Abilene, Tyler, Waco, and South Padre Island (see details below).

“TASB Legal Services has been hosting Fall Legal Seminars around the state for over 35 years. Attendees can access high-quality legal training by travelling to a location close to their homes,” said Leslie Story, Legal Services division director.

The program this year will cover topics including governance issues, the board’s role in personnel decisions, considerations after a disaster, and student discipline. There will also be a legal update session highlighting recent developments in school law. Legal Services staff strive to make what can be complicated topics approachable and understandable to the audience.

“When deciding what topics to cover, we look at what current issues trustees and administrators are facing,” Story said. “The presenters cover legal topics with a focus on what school district trustees need to know about legal issues that are coming up for districts across the state.”

This program offers up to five hours of TEA-approved credit in school board member training under the State Board of Education’s Framework for School Board Development.
