Deficit Budgets Top District Concerns

TASB HR Services will not administer a pay increase quick poll this year due to the ongoing 89th Texas Legislative Session, but the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) School Finance Survey provides some insight into districts’ financial concerns.

TASBO received responses from 190 Texas school districts for its 2nd Annual TASBO School Finance Survey. Approximately 65 percent of respondents rated deficit budgets/lack of resources to be a significant challenge. Regarding a pay increase, responses were as follows:

  • 42 percent do not anticipate giving a pay increase without help from the legislature
  • 48 percent think they would give a pay increase but would have to fund it through other cuts
  • 10 percent have sufficient funds to plan for a salary increase

Visit the TASBO website to download results of the 2025 TASBO School Finance Survey. The HR Services pay increase quick poll will resume next year.
