Leadership TASB Application Opening May 1
School board members ready to expand their knowledge of governance, advocacy, and leadership are encouraged to apply to Leadership TASB, a yearlong training program designed to inspire school board trustees to be proactive, visionary leaders who promote educational excellence for all children in Texas public schools.
LTASB, a program of Board Development Services, kicks off in September during txEDCON and concludes at Summer Leadership Institute in Fort Worth. Applications are accepted May 1 through July 1 at 11:59 p.m.
Leadership TASB was founded in 1993 by board members for board members in the hopes that its in-depth training would ultimately benefit Texas’ public school students. Since its launch, more than 1,000 trustees have successfully completed the program, earning the title Master Trustee. Board members who have successfully completed LTASB rave about the benefits of the program and share key takeaways in the video below.
A cohort of up to 36 trustees is selected each year. Traditionally, the class meets for five sessions over the year, each lasting two to three days, typically being held Wednesday evening, Thursday, Friday, and a half-day on Saturday. The class visits districts and schools across the state, learning about innovative programs districts implement to achieve outstanding educational results.
Along with the learning opportunity LTASB offers trustees, it also brings board members together from urban and rural districts ranging in size and student populations. The experience allows the cohort members to gain insight from one another while also building lasting collaborative relationships.
