Online Course: Understanding the FLSA
TASB HR Services has released an online, on-demand course to help organizations create strong processes and procedures to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The FLSA was established to facilitate better working conditions through federal minimum wages, overtime pay requirements, child labor laws, and employer recordkeeping standards. Violating the FLSA could result in monetary penalties and criminal prosecution.
Human resources and payroll staff who complete the course will gain an understanding of the main provisions of the FLSA, including how to:
- Determine exemption status
- Properly calculate nonexempt employee pay
- Manage overtime
- Determine independent contractor versus employee status
- Ensure child labor regulations are followed
Understanding the Fair Labor Standards Act is the second online, on-demand course offered by HR Services through the TASB Online Learning Center. Members should log in with their TASB login; nonmembers will be prompted to create a nonmember login. If you have any difficulties creating an account, reach out to onlinelearning@tasb.org.
