The Impact of Strategic Hiring

Education Week recently reported on researchers across the country who are working to improve teacher hiring through a strategic approach to the application, screening, and interview process.

The goal of the research is to develop a system of hiring that predicts teacher longevity and effectiveness. Districts participating in the study adopt a standardized screening process for prospective teachers. Applicants are then scored based on rubrics aligned to the district’s teacher-evaluation system, helping districts make more strategic hiring decisions.
