TASA | TASB Legislative Conference
Learn what’s at stake during the legislative session and connect with lawmakers so you can help prioritize the top education issues affecting your schools.
Held in February of legislative session years, the TASA | TASB Legislative Conference offers school board members and superintendents the opportunity to communicate local district needs and priorities to legislators, as well as get involved in the legislative process.
This free, one-day event is a collaboration between the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and TASB to update attendees on legislative activity and proposed bills. The goal is to prepare school leaders to meet with legislators and staff. In addition, key legislators and political observers are invited to share their insights on the legislative session and education policy.
On Nov. 22, 2024, the Texas State Board of Education adopted changes to school board member training rules that prohibit individuals from awarding continuing education credit for sessions that include political advocacy. Because the definition of political advocacy included in the new rules may encompass discussions about legislative bills, education policy being considered by the legislature, or rulemaking by state agencies, TASB will not be offering training credit for this session. TASB will continue to offer trainings for credit on updates to the Texas Education Code following a legislative session. TASB will also continue to provide sessions on advocacy and legislative updates, but may not offer credit depending on the topics to be covered.
