Legal Research Library

Looking for in-depth school law resources? Legal Research Library provides an online, searchable legal archive for board members, administrators, and school attorneys.

The Legal Research Library (LRL) is an online, searchable archive of valuable school law resources, many of which are not available anywhere else. Designed for board members, administrators, and school lawyers, the LRL includes:

  • A complete collection of TASB School Law Update Newsletters, dating back to 1988
  • Full-text decisions from the commissioner of education, dating back to 1995
  • Index of all past commissioner decisions, dating back to 1989
  • Amicus briefs filed by the TASB Legal Assistance Fund

These resources are fully searchable and conveniently organized in the LRL.

Having access to the LRL greatly expands the usefulness of your TASB School Law Update Newsletter access. With LRL, you can read about new commissioner decisions summarized in the newsletter, with convenient links to the full text of the decision. If the issue addressed in that decision resurfaces months or years later, a quick search in the LRL will immediately place the newsletter summary and full-text decision at your fingertips. Additional resources are available in the LRL for members of the Texas Council of School Attorneys (CSA), including:

  • Valuable suggested amendments to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) model construction contracts, developed by a committee of CSA members with expertise in construction law
  • Summaries of education-related bills passed by the Texas Legislature
  • Access to the TASB Legal Services’ Independent Hearing Examiners database

TASB’s Legal Assistance Fund supports school districts with legal challenges that have the potential to affect public schools statewide.
